ADA - Barrier Free Site Mobility
If you are reading this, then you are likely aware of the ADA compliance mandates that are required by RSIS, NJDOT, and likely your municipality. Enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) made it illegal to discriminate against persons with disabilities. The law mandates that all public spaces—including transportation facilities—accommodate persons with disabilities. Obvious issues come to mind like sidewalk profile grade and adequate passing widths, certainly handicap ramps (which are notoriously incorrectly designed/constructed), and barrier-free access to public commercial businesses. For a build-out that includes traffic signalization, you must also consider accommodating the hearing and sight impaired. BLSH&E takes all of these issues into consideration when responding to the project parameters: parking, crosswalk signing & striping, curb ramps, and detectable warning surfaces. These elements are all designed to be in conformance with current regulation. We can also design a retrofit to bring your existing situation into code.
Give me a call, I can help (before you get cited, or worse – sued). As with all of my engineering consultation/designs, you will be presented with a detailed written proposal of the Scope of Work for your review, including fee, prior to commencing.
